Spontaneous intracerebral and intracerebellar hematomas
نویسنده
چکیده
This chapter aims to summarize the pathophysiology of spontaneous intracerebral and intracerebellar hematomas (SICH) while focusing on contemporary thought on inhibition of hematoma propagation and future directions of clinical research in the field. ICH can be classified into primary and secondary forms. Primary ICH occurs in the absence of a preexisting structural abnormality while secondary ICH is due to a congenital or acquired lesion. (The most common type of secondary ICH caused by a ruptured aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation is detailed in different presentations.)

Therapeutical - imagistic correlation regarding intracerebellar hematomas
Intracerebellar hematomas are single or multiple hematic collections localized on the cerebellar parenchyma, with an evolution similar to an intracranial expansive process. If clinical examination opens the way to diagnose, the imagistics not only that can lead to an accurate diagnose in almost every case, but it also dictates the therapeutic strategy. Thus, our study is focused on establishing ...
متن کاملSmall chronic hemorrhages and ischemic lesions in association with spontaneous intracerebral hematomas.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE It has been speculated that the same type of hypertensive small-artery disease can cause either intracerebral hemorrhages or ischemic lesions, depending on the circumstances. METHODS To test this hypothesis, we examined the association between spontaneous intracerebral hematomas and both small chronic hemorrhages and ischemic lesions using echo planar and T2-weighted MR...

متن کاملA novel simple measure correlates to the outcome in 57 patients with intracerebellar hematomas. Results of a retrospective analysis
BACKGROUND The incidence of intracerebellar hemorrhages approaches 5-10% of all intracerebral hematomas. The clinical presentation varies from headaches and dizziness to rapid deterioration of consciousness to the point of coma in severe cases. In order to find some concrete criteria that could influence the prognosis of these patients, we performed this retrospective study. METHODS We retros...
متن کاملAge-related spontaneous intracerebral hematoma in a German community.
We investigated incidence, age distribution in relation to etiology, and localization of spontaneous intracerebral hematoma in 100 consecutive cases. Incidence in the total population of the Giessen area was estimated to be greater than 11/100,000 inhabitants/yr and increased with age. There was a trend toward higher incidence in males. Overall mortality was 27%, 22% of 58 patients aged less th...
